The KM Vertical do Fanal is situated in the west tip of the island, in the Porto Moniz municipality, a place of rare beauty highlighted mainly by their natural pools but also by having a well preserved Laurisilva Forest such as the one where the race finishes, the Fanal.
The Madeira Island archipelago is situated on the North Atlantic around 900 kms of mainland Portugal and 600 kms of the coast of Marrocos.

The Fanal has a immense natural heritage, where the main highlight is the big concentrations of “Tis”, “Ocotea Foetens”, century year old trees of large proportions that belong the the family of Laurel trees.

The course has a distance of approximately of 3.980 meters and 1.000 meters of positive climb.
It starts in the small village of Ribeira Funda, in the entry of the second tunel at 78 meters above sea level and it finishes near the Fanal lagoon at 1.078 meters altitude.
